Welcome to our website...
Can you identify the picture above of some well known crossroads? Answer at bottom of page. Whitley Historical Society was formed in 2006 as an off-shoot of producing the Whitley Village Plan. Members of the society have worked (and still do) over the past 2 years investigating the origins of Whitley and its history.
Our research has identified many of the original historical features around our village and we have produced a leaflet that covers the Whitley Heritage Trail, containing details of some major historical finds including the Village Well, Sheep Dip, Knights Chancellors fort and much more.
We are currently researching even more about the Knights Templars and their role as soldiers protecting pilgrims on their way to visit Jerusalem.
Do you have any old pictures, stories or newspaper clippings of Whitley, Whitley Thorpe or Whitley Bridge? We are always looking for such information and would welcome your contribution, we can scan images and documents and hand them back to you.
To join our society or send us your pictures/photographs/newspaper clippings etc. please contact Richard or Carol on 01977 661 285.
Famous Crossroads - Hut Green, the pub is Horse and Jockey, the Policeman in the middle is directing traffic on a busy day!
